2017

Emergency shelters are being built on the way to Preikestolen. The first of two cabins has been constructed.

2016

In June 13, 2016, for the first time, someone climbed up to Preikestolen. It was Øyvind Salvesen and Jon Egil Auestad who were the first climbers. Source: Stavanger Aftenblad – Preikestolen climbed for the first time (subscription required).

2014

Sherpas from Nepal have completed the improvement of the trail to Preikestolen by building stairs and laying stones in 2014.

2008

Preikestolen Fjellstue (mountain lodge) is opened in 2008.

1993

The Preikestolen Foundation was established in 1993.

1961

A road is constructed to Preikestolhytta (Preikestolen cabin) in 1961.

1949

Stavanger Turistforening (Stavanger Tourist Association) builds Preikestolhytta in 1949.

1896

Preikestolen was discovered in 1896. At that time, it was called “Høvlatannå”. It was discovered by the bank manager Ths. P. Randullf.
